NAD+ AND CHRONIC ILLNESS?

NAD+ AND CHRONIC ILLNESS?

Key Pointers

The NAD+ is related to chronic illness in the following ways.

  • Chronic illness is a result of mitochondrial dysfunction which is improved by increased NAD+.
  • By enhancing the body's natural cellular repair mechanisms, increased NAD+ can help these illnesses drastically reduce their symptoms.
  • By disabling the electrical potential and membrane potential along the membrane of mitochondria.

Chronic diseases are associated with mitochondrial dysfunction, such as neurological conditions, diseases of the autoimmune system, and diabetes. It may be possible to undo this chronic illness by restoring NAD+ levels, thus reversing its consequences. There are many types of chronic illnesses, and they are generally not curable.  The condition may be progressive, causing difficulty in participating in daily activities or intensifying over time.

NAD+ also affects the membrane potential of the mitochondria and the transfer of energy along the electron transport chain that leads to all these types of chronic ailments.

The term chronic refers to a long-term or chronic disease. Nevertheless, not all of them might hamper your daily activities or cause disability. Chronic illnesses include the following:

  • Allergies
  • Arthritis
  • Cancer of the cervix
  • Depression
  • COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
  • Renal failure
  • Cardiomyopathy
  • AIDS/HIV
  • Cancer of the lung
  • Heart attack
  • Diabetes Type 2
  • Osteoporosis
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Crohn’s disease

By enhancing the body's natural cell repair mechanisms, increased amounts of NAD+ can help these illnesses drastically reduce their symptoms. NAD+ improves cell structure and maintains their functions. NAD+ helps in the synthesis of nutrients that are necessary for ailments of chronic diseases. It has been demonstrated anecdotally that increased amounts of NAD+ made available to the body works here and in the US.

NAD+ is a coenzyme and required for the process of energy generation and cellular respiration in the mitochondria. The NAD+ and coenzyme Q10 supplementation reduces the symptoms of fatigue and also improves the functions of mitochondria in chronic disorders including CFS.

NAD+ and NADH are two forms of nicotinamide adenosine dinucleotide (NAD): NAD+ (reduced) and NADH (oxidized). Our mitochondria make energy, ATP, by recycling NADH (the inactive form) into NAD+ (the active form). It is possible for the cell to die if this recycling stops, resulting in NADH accumulation. Therefore, as the NAD+/NADH ratio is too low, or the NAD+/NADH levels are too low, it can cause mitochondrial and cellular problems.

Among the primary reasons for mitochondrial dysfunction, it contributes to oxidative stress. In addition to neuropsychological and neurodegenerative conditions, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, and many more, mitochondrial dysfunction is a major factor in many chronic diseases. This can be reversed by restoring NAD+ levels, reversing chronic illness, and restoring cellular energy levels.

Conclusion

NAD+ improves mitochondrial functions which help in ailments of chronic diseases. These ailments are due to impairments in the energy production pathway or disturbance in the DNA repair pathway. The role of NAD+ in the membrane potential also causes disturbance in the cell which is another cause of these ailments.
